Mrs.Gladys Aurelia Lassiter Johnson, 91, of Tifton, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at her residence.

A private interment will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery. A memorial service for her family and friends will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 30, 1928 in Smithfield, North Carolina to the late Shepherd Ransom Lassiter and Annie Barnes Lassiter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph C. Johnson, Jr., to whom she was married for sixty-one years at his death December 19, 2010, and her sister, Grace Lassiter Boyette. Mrs. Johnson was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Tifton where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a graduate of Meredith College, Campbell University and Valdosta State University. She was a retired teacher of Biology and Anatomy after more than thirty-five years. She taught at Tift County High School, Tiftarea Academy and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, painting and serving at her church. She loved to smile and do good things for other people.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Shepherd and Vivian Johnson of Douglas; her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bill Harrison of Friendship, Maine; her grandchildren, Audrey and Joel Ray Williams of Duncan, South Carolina and Andrew Shepherd and Ashley Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina; great granddaughter, Maddox Rose Williams of Duncan, South Carolina; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward S. and Mary Lassiter of Dunn, North Carolina and Phil O. and Linda Lassiter of Four Oaks, North Carolina and her nephew, David E. and Gail Massengill of Four Oaks, North Carolina who was like a brother to her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions, c/o First Baptist Church of Tifton, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, Ga., 31794 or The Alzheimer’s Association, 2402 Tift Avenue North Suite 102, Tifton, Ga. 31794.
