Mary Ellen Gillis Whitley, age 77, of Nicholls, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Mrs. Whitley was born on September 29, 1942 in Coffee County, Georgia, daughter of the late Gaston and Frances Mills Gillis.

Mrs. Whitley was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church and a long time employee of Norris Shoe Store.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Whitley and a granddaughter, Jessica Whitley.

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Beverly) Whitley of Nicholls, GA and Vernon (Annette) Whitley of Greenwood, S.C.; four grandchildren, Scott (Tori) Whitley, Margaret (Lee) Salisbury, Mandy (Russ) Tollison and Fletcher Whitley; six great grandchildren, Hagan Whitley, Henli Whitley, Emma Rose Tollison, Madelyn Tollison, Everhett Tollison and Charlie Tollison; two sisters, Carrie Thomas and Burrell Harper and two brothers, Lonnie Gillis and Jesse Gillis all from Nicholls, GA.

Due to current health care situations concerning the COVID 19 and restrictions imposed by the State of Georgia and the CDC, a private graveside service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Forest Grove Church Cemetery with Rev. Willie Wilson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Scott Whitley, Hagan Whitley, Steve Whitley, Lee Salisbury, Lee Taylor and Michael Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Forest Grove Baptist Church. Attn: Hubert Anderson 1842 Burl Mills Road,Nicholls, GA 31554.
