Mr. Orville Carter, age 78 of Douglas, passed away early Saturday morning, April 18, 2020, at his residence following a short illness. Mr. Carter was born September 5, 1941 to the late Hubert Carter and the late Janie Carver Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ann Carter and a brother, Norman Carter.

Mr. Carter, a native of Coffee County, was a retired USDA poultry inspector. After his retirement from the USDA, he was a custodian for the Coffee County Board of Education at Satilla Elementary School.  He was of the Holiness Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janice Smith Carter of Douglas; children, Orville Brent Carter of Douglas, GA and Lorrinda Johnson and husband Stanley of Broxton; grandchildren, Keven Johnson and wife Laila, Adam Johnson and Cody Rowe, all of Douglas; great-grandchildren, Jace Johnson of Blackshear, GA, Samuel Rowe and Lyna Johnson, both of Douglas, GA; several cousins and many friends.

A private graveside service with interment will be Monday, April 20, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. at Franklin Cemetery with Rev. Leroy Spivey officiating.  Please note that due to restrictions of attendance and social distancing being place on funeral homes by the CDC concerning COVID-19 please observe their guidelines.

Pallbearers for the service will be: Keven Johnson, Adam Johnson, Cody Rowe, Stanley Johnson, Charles Byrd and Kyle Byrd.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
