Joyce Hope Carver, age 77 of Douglas, passed away in the early morning hours of June 23rd from a stroke at Coffee Regional Medical Center under the care of Bethany Hospice and her daughter.

Joyce was born on November 28, 1942 in Broxton to Benjamin Hoyt Hope and Eunice Lee Day. She was married almost 56 years to Alton Carver, the love of her life. Her family was her heart and soul. She had two children, Erica Leigh Carver, her ever-present caregiver of 10 years and son, Kevin Alton Carver and wife, Heather Cason Carver. The lights of her life were her two grandsons, Alexander Alton Carver and Julian Fox Carver; she was so thankful to see them born and the best words to hear were I love you, Nana. She often instigated a call to her son most nights to check on “my boys.”

Joyce was a member of FHA in high school and attained an Associates’ degree in Home Economics at South Georgia College. She loved to cook, travel, and was an early member of the Douglas Garden Club. In 1980, she and family moved to Zephyrhills, FL to develop a mobile home park; eventually becoming a commercial real estate broker with her own firm. The family returned to Douglas in 2011.

She is predeceased by her parents, Benjamin Hoyt Hope and Eunice Lee Day Hope; two sisters, Juanita Batten and Jeanette Paulk Kent; and one brother, James Hoyt Hope. She has a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorialization is by cremation to keep watch over her family from the mantle.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.ricketsonfuneralhome.com

Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
