Former Douglas Chief of Police (Ret) Clyde Purvis, age 82, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Chief Purvis was born on September 14, 1938, in Douglas to the late Quincey Purvis and the late Louise Smith Purvis.
Chief Purvis was a member of the Georgia National Guard, Chief of Police for the City of Douglas, retiring after many, many years, but continued with law enforcement through the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department. He attended Southview Church of God.
He is survived by his son, Anthony Tyrone “Tony” Purvis of Douglas, GA; brother, Eston (Carolyn) Purvis of Hunington Beach, CA; sister, Olie Real of Douglas, GA.; aunt, Martha Wiggins of Thomasville, GA. Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nora Lee Music, Grace Lee Steptoe, and Betty Boatright and one brother, Owen Purvis
Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Douglas City Cemetery with Rev. Byron L. Griffis officiating.
