Daniel Gary Hires Sr., age 67, of Nicholls, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Satilla Hospice House, Waycross, Georgia. Mr. Hires was born on October 23, 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida the son of the late Daniel H. Hires and the late Pauline Smith Hires. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Michelle Hires.

 

Mr. Hires worked for 37 ½ years with JEA in Jacksonville, Florida, where he served in the substation maintenance department, training and teaching apprentices that worked under him. He taught many how to maintain the nitrogen blankets on station service transformers old units 1 and 3, as well as the new station transformers.” – Ronald Lee. “He was a good man and a good friend and called me to help me through tough times as I did for him and I’ll always be thankful for the friend he was.”- C.J. Foreman.  Always willing to help any and all that called on him. As Gary would always say to those he had the opportunity to witness to, “The most important thing is to make Heaven!” For those that knew him, know without a doubt, Gary made Heaven. He was a cattle farmer who had a passion for raising bulls and attended Douglas Christian Fellowship Church of God.

 

Survivors include his wife, Kay Marie Hires of Nicholls, GA; son, Daniel Gary Hires Jr of South Carolina; grandson, Cameron Ethan Hires of Nicholls, GA; granddaughter, Grace (Lexie) Hires of Nicholls, GA; sister, Linda O’Steen (Blaine) of Fleming Island, FL; Cousins; Eula Kay Thomas, Thomas Marion Carnley, Dorothy Patterson, George Randall Peacock, Ronald David Peacock, Nelda Smith Hoffmeyer, Michael Smith, Edward Patterson, Patricia Smith, Emmanual Hires, Marie Harrell, Sharon Warren, and special friends Buzz Miller, Jimmy Smith, and G.E. Winskie.

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 12:00PM to 1:00PM at Sims Funeral home.

 

Funeral services will be family only.

 

Special thanks to Dr. Jha, Dr. Irfan, and Dr. Tripp with Memorial Satilla Specialists – Radiation/Oncology/Gastroenterology, Memorial Satilla Health, and Satilla Hospice House.

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all customers, guests, and attendees to wear medical grade masks at all times while in our facility, as well as social distancing.
