Sears “Dub” Moffett was born in Ocilla, Georgia, on September 1, 1937, to the late Thomas Moffett Sr. and Lydia Wilson Moffett.

Sears was a prominent black farmer in Irwin County who could grow anything. He was a farmer his entire life until he recently retired five years ago at the age of 80.

Sears was united in holy matrimony to Linda Faye Curtis on December 19, 1998, in Douglas, Georgia. Sears’s love for his family was immeasurable.

Dub has fought the good fight, ran the race, and won the battle. On July 1, 2023, God knelt down and whispered, “Come home, my child, no more pain, no more sickness.” Obediently, he surrendered his soul; he’s no longer dreaming the dream, he now lives the dream with his Heavenly Father.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Moffett Sr. and Lydia Wilson Moffett; two brothers: Paul and David Moffett.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Linda Faye Moffett; six children: Alan (Lois) Moffett of Ocilla, Georgia, Dennis (Sophia) Moffett of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Derick (Sue) Moffett of Douglas, Georgia, Tammy Merritt of Atlanta, Georgia, Lashanda Williams of Mogadishu Somalia, and Ricardo (Latoya) Curtis of Douglas Georgia; ten siblings: Thomas Moffett Jr, Willie (Maria) Moffett, Romie (Yvonne) Moffett, Edward (Linda) Moffett, Jerry (Shirley) Moffett, Nathaniel Moffett, James Moffett, Lucille Taylor, Minnie Robinson, and Mary (Bobby) Gardner; one sister-in-law: Easter Moffett; special relatives and friends: Jeren “JL” Fullmore, Armani Hodges, Chase Hodges, Michael Taft, Barbara (Ray) Mathis, Janice Waters, Ophelia Merritt; and a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and health care professionals.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Young’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Willie Williams and Rev. Dr. James W. Anthony, Jr., presiding.

Harrell’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
