Douglas Utilities is celebrating Public Power Week, Oct. 1-7, along with 2,000 other community-powered, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

“Since we operate right here in Douglas and serve our friends and neighbors, we care a great deal about things like customer service, helping folks save energy and money, providing reliable service, and keeping the community safe,” says Michael Hudson, Douglas Utilities Director. “We are proud of the work we do in these areas.”

The City of Douglas’s electrical distribution system consists of 132.15 miles of high voltage primary lines. The Electric Division is responsible for distributing electric service to more than 5,850 residents and maintaining over 3,160 street and security lights. The division consists of 11 employees including the nine linemen who work tirelessly to keep the lights on in the City of Douglas.

Douglas Utilities invites community members to share thanks to our linemen who go out in the storms to ensure that lights are on as soon as possible for our customers. You can thank our linemen by tagging us in Facebook @Cityofdouglasgagovernment or @cityofdouglasga on X/Twitter.
