The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce rolled out the red carpet, or in this case, the ribbon, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, to mark the exciting change of hands at the beloved Hog N’ Bones establishment. The festivities were in honor of the new proprietors, Richard and Merlene Crosby, who have been working tirelessly over the past year to elevate this cherished eatery in Douglas and Coffee County.

Hailing from Blackshear, GA, Richard and Merlene Crosby took the reins of Hog N’ Bones in November of last year, and since then, they’ve poured their hearts and resources into enhancing the dining experience for the local community. The changes and improvements they’ve introduced have been nothing short of remarkable.

The celebration kicked off with warm words of welcome from Chelsea Preston, the Member Relations Director at the Chamber. Gathered in the banquet room of Hog N’ Bones, attendees were treated to a touching invocation and word of prayer by Joshua Crosby, the General Manager of Hog N’ Bones and son of Richard and Merlene.

The event took on a humorous tone when City of Douglas Mayor Tony Paulk took the stage. His congratulatory remarks and gratitude for the Crosby family’s investment in the community were punctuated with his trademark wit, keeping everyone in high spirits.

Dr. Tracy McClelland, the Board Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, followed the Mayor’s lead in congratulating and thanking the Crosbys for their partnership with the Chamber, quoting Les Brown: “It’s better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one, than to have an opportunity and not be prepared.” The Crosbys certainly seized their opportunity with open hearts and prepared minds when they took over the Douglas Hog N’ Bones location.

Richard Crosby, Owner of Hog N’ Bones, delivered a heartfelt speech about their vision for the Douglas Hog N’ Bones, their plans for its growth and development, and the deep-rooted passion that fuels their family’s love for what they do.

The celebration was graced not only by several Chamber board members but also by Chamber Student Ambassador, London O’Steen, representing the Chamber’s exciting new “junior board concept” team.

The large crowd made their way outside to cut the ribbon and afterward, everyone was treated to a mouthwatering buffet featuring delicious barbeque and homemade sides, expertly prepared by the Hog N’ Bones catering team, inside the banquet room.

The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce, along with the entire community, eagerly anticipates the continued success and growth of Hog N’ Bones under the leadership of Richard and Merlene Crosby. This celebration marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this beloved establishment, and the Crosbys’ commitment to excellence promises an even brighter future for all who cherish Hog N’ Bones.

Hog N’ Bones is located at 24 Ameris Drive in Douglas. They can be reached at 912-720-2233. Their hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 6am until 9pm. You can visit their website at www.hognbones.com.
