Susan Carole Ranson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on October 13, 2023. She was born on May 12, 1945, to Lawrence H. Archer and Sylvia Austin Archer. Susan had a deep love for education and dedicated her career to teaching and serving others.

Throughout her life, Susan made a significant impact in the field of education. She worked at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and shared her passion for teaching at various institutions including Lakeland Baptist Church, Lowndes Christian Academy, Berrien Christian Academy, and Clays Mill Christian Academy. Susan’s commitment to nurturing young minds extended beyond school walls as she served alongside her husband as a supportive pastor’s wife at the Church of Grace Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church, and Lakeland Baptist Church.

Susan’s genuine compassion touched the lives of many. Her dedication to both her family and her community was evident in her selfless acts of kindness. Whether it was lending an empathetic ear or offering words of encouragement, Susan always approached every interaction with love and understanding.

Those who were fortunate enough to have known Susan during her lifetime will remember her infectious laughter and warm smile. Her love for life was contagious and she had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued in her presence.

Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward Eugene Ranson. Their marriage was a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other through thick and thin. As a devoted mother, she leaves behind her daughter Andrea Ranson Bassett. Andrea brought immense joy into Susan’s life when she became a mother herself with Bruce M. Bassett by her side. Susan took great pride in being a grandmother to Suzanna J. Bassett and Alena K. Bassett.

Susan’s siblings held a special place in her heart; she cherished the memories created with them throughout the years. She is survived by her brother Michael T. Archer. Susan’s sister, Sandy (Tommy) Archer Belville, was not only her sibling but also her confidante. She shared a close bond with Sandy and cherished the moments spent together. Susan will be missed dearly by her niece Kristie Belville Warner, who held a special place in her heart. Her brother David Alan Archer went to be with our Lord before her and even though she missed him dearly she is once again united with him in grace.

Among Susan’s surviving family and friends is Phillip (Judy) Ranson, her brother-in-law, who offered support and love throughout their journey together. Cindy (Stephen) Ranson Grimes and Cheryl (Terry) Gergely, nieces of Susan, were more like daughters to her. Their relationship was built on a foundation of trust, love, and unwavering support.

Susan’s spirit lives on in the hearts of her nephews T.J. (Bekki) Belville, Steven (Teresa) Boyes, and Michael (Abby) Boyes who treasured the moments they shared with their aunt.

In memory of Susan Carole Ranson, visitation will be held at First Baptist Church located at 124 North Gaskin Avenue in Douglas, Georgia on October 15, 2023. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM during the visitation event.

A funeral service will follow at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on October 15th, 2023 with Pastor Don Hattaway and Pastor Shep Johnson. The service will honor Susan’s life and celebrate the beautiful memories she leaves behind.

Susan Carole Ranson will forever be remembered as a compassionate educator who touched countless lives. Her legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire others for generations to come. May she rest in eternal peace as her memory lives on in the hearts of those who love her.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
