Most of Monday’s county commission meeting involved approving the usual routine July 1 business — board appointments, various resolutions, lease agreements, and the like — but there was one
interesting agenda item that may be of interest to citizens who live near the location.
At the end of the meeting, commissioners entertained the first readings of four rezoning requests. All four will have the second readings and public hearings at the August meeting. One of the four
involves a fairly large tract of land with the address listed as 450 Chaney Road. CT Realty Investment Group has submitted a request to rezone the property, which is 142.1 acres, from AG, Agriculture to W, HI Warehouse Heavy Industrial. The purpose of the request is to construct an asphalt plant at the location. Initially, the Planning Commission tabled the request but has since revisited the item; both the Planning Commission and county staff have recommended approval for the request.
Other rezoning requests include petitions from Barbara White to rezone 11 acres at 58 Straight and Narrow Way from RM, Residential Mixed to C, Commercial for an RV park; Maria and Heroldany Artiga for 2.22 acres at 4079 Highway 32 West from R2, Residential to C, Commercial, for the purposes of constructing buildings for rent; and Efrani Sanchez for .81 acres at 4400 Highway 32 West from R1, Residential to C, Commercial (the old Sims Veterinary Clinic property near the little cemetery on the north side of Highway 32 a couple of miles outside the city limits).
The second readings and public hearings for all of these requests will be conducted at the August meeting.
Commissioners also approved several items for surplus from the fire department. These items will be placed on govdeals.com for sale. The surplus items are: a 50 hp Mercury boat motor, flag pole, fire hose, several AEDs, and miscellaneous electronic equipment.
The board appointments are as follows:

Tax Assessors Board Post 5 — Walt Pridgen
