Dennis Cecil Josey, age 91 , of Douglas, Georgia passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21st, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Douglas, Georgia on May 19th, 1 933, the son of Dennis Eugene Josey and Alice Chaney Josey.
Dennis Josey was a building contractor who built upwards of several hundred homes in Coffee County and surrounding counties. He began working in construction almost immediately after graduating from Douglas High School in 1951 . Over the years he has been a frequent patron of Lott Builders Supply Company, Coley Electric, Carson’s Lumber Company, and most recently Lowe’s and Harbor Freight. Dennis Josey was a dedicated public servant representing the citizens of Ward 4 as City Commissioner from 2004 to 2015. Dennis Josey was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He helped build the church sanctuary and social hall. He worked for over ten years with Mexico Medical Missions building many churches and repairing homes in rural communities in Mexico. He once commented that he felt his ability and knowledge of building houses was a gift from God, and he needed to use that gift to spread God’s love by helping low income families to realize their dreams of owning a home. He was a blessing to many in his hometown of Douglas and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include three sons: George Ashley (Lori) Josey, Duc (Julita) Nguyen, and Antoni (Suwini) Foe, and three daughters: Ramona Denise (Eddie) Steptoe, Alicia Dianne Josey, and Jeannie Darlene (Patrick) Taillat. Eleven grandchildren: Jack Edward Steptoe Ill, Andrew Dennis Steptoe, Sara Jordan (Michael) Gaunt, Matthew Evan (Brittney) Josey, Andrew Logan Josey, Sean Landon Josey, Axelle Taillat, Zoe Taillat, Tiffany (Tyler) Betts, Jonathan Nguyen, and Parker Foe. One great grandchild: Aurora Mae Gaunt. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dennis Eugene Josey and Alice Chaney Josey. One sister: Leah Josey Smith. One brother: Dewey Josey. His beloved wife: Rebecca Jean Wright Josey. Two grandchildren: Brant Corey Raper and Meghan Foe.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, February 28th at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, Georgia from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1st at Northside Baptist Church in Douglas, Georgia at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Kenneth White officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Douglas Cemetery.
