Ms. Barbara Dell Varnedore Rowell, age 79 of Douglas, Georgia, was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. She experienced a peaceful passing surrounded by her loved ones at her residence.
Barbara was born May 30, 1945 in Axson, Georgia to the late James I. Varnedore and the late Idelle Varnedore. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse who enjoyed a career spanning 40 years. She spent many of her years as a nurse serving patients at Coffee Regional Medical Center as well as within the Georgia Prison System. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed bargain hunting, square dancing and a good joke. She will long be remembered as a woman of faith and courage.
Barbara is survived by two daughters: Terry Lynn (Johnny) Burkett and Sherry Lee (Robbie) Carroll, both of Douglas, Georgia; one son, Joseph Davie (Tammie) Anderson of Bristol, Georgia; six grandchildren: Kasie (Justin) Smith, Chad (April) Burkett, Paige (Lee) Burkett, all of Douglas, Georgia, Mikhaela (Lawton) Davis and Maegan (Zack) Kirkland, both of Nicholls, Georgia, Kaylee (Ryan) Sellers of Hazlehurst, Georgia, Melissa (Bryan) Carter of Douglas, Georgia; eight great grandchildren: Abbigail, Everleigh, Karli, Elijah, Tucker, Josie, Cooper, James Waylon; one sister, Bonita (Eddison) Taft, of Douglas, Georgia; and special caregiver: Lola Threat. Several nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Irma Morgan, Betty Arnold; one brother, James Carl Varnedore; and one grandson, Mitchell Jowers.
Barbara’s funeral was held on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Terry Reagan and Bro. Kyle Taft officiating. Musical selections included “Amazing Grace” and “I’ll Fly Away”, both presented from the recorded music of Alan Jackson. Interment followed at Tanner Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Terry Reagan officiating and Kasi Smith and Robbie Carroll each speaking.
