Mrs. Joy Durden Batten, age 90, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away Monday morning March 17, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family following a lengthy illness.  

Mrs. Batten was born May 1, 1934 in Coffee County, Georgia to the late John Lawton Durden and the late Martha Peterson Durden.  She was a dental assistant to Dr. Arlis Burch for many years and a longtime member of Saginaw Baptist Church.

Mrs. Batten is survived by 3 sons: Tom Batten and wife Sandra, Bruce Batten, Rex Batten and wife Dianne, all of Douglas, Georgia; 6 grandchildren: Stephanie (Paxton) Poitevint of Bainbridge, Georgia, Amanda Holland of Douglas, Georgia, Jason (Carrie) Batten of Bonaire, Georgia, Erin (Matt) Clayton of Waverly Hall, Georgia, Julie Wall of Douglas, Georgia, Audrey (Josh) Williams of Eastanollee, Georgia; 12 Grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Batten was preceded in death by her husband, Rexford Batten; 9 siblings: Paul Durden, Edwin Durden, Dan Durden, Bill Durden, Clark Durden, Bette Durden, Bernice Byrd, Lemmie Daugherty, and Nora Johnson.

Mrs. Batten’s funeral will be held Wednesday, Marach 19, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Lone Hill Church with Rev. Matt Rutland officiating.  Interment followed in Lone Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers included: Joseph Williams, Jordan Williams, Connor Poitevint, Elijah Carver, Jacob Batten, and Colton Clayton.

Mrs. Batten’s arrangements have been entrusted to the kind and compassionate staff of Ricketson Funeral Home, Inc.
