Mrs. Josephine Buckhannon Wooten, age 87, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away Monday morning, March 17, 2025 at her residence following a period of declining health.

Josephine was born January 26, 1938 in McRae, Georgia to the late Oscar Allen and the late Liza Buckhannon Allen.  She was a spinner at Coats & Clark for many years, as well as spending time at Lillie’s Restaurant.  She was of the Church of God faith, attending Harvest Time Church of God for many years and West Ward Church of God in her later years until her health prevented her attendance.  Josephine was a devoted wife to the late Marion Wooten for a number of years prior to his passing in 2005.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Alvin Ellis and Allie Ellis.

Josephine is survived by her son, Arvin Ellis, of Douglas, Georgia; 4 grandchildren: Keagan, Gabby, Pam, Josh; 8 great grandchildren; 1 brother and 1 sister; along with a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A graveside funeral service and interment was held for Josephine on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Pridgen Cemetery with Bishop Britt Peavy officiating.

Josephine’s arrangements have been entrusted to the kind and compassionate staff of Ricketson Funeral Home, Inc.
