An employee at a local business was arrested and charged with theft by deception after she allegedly refunded items inside the store and kept the cash for herself.

According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, the incidents took place in July at Roses. An employee of the store, Jakayla Johnson, 21, of Nicholls, allegedly performed the alleged thefts on four different dates in July: July 13, July 16, July 21, and July 30. The total amount of the alleged thefts was $1,446.04. She was arrested on August 1, 2025.

The report states that Johnson had submitted a written statement admitting that the thefts had taken place. The store had receipts and video evidence of the incidents, the report states.

She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and subsequently released on bond.
