It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Spivey, of Waycross, who departed this life on September 22nd, 2025. She was the devoted wife of the late John Spivey, with whom she shared a lifetime of family, friendship, and cherished traditions.
Born and raised in Douglas, Elaine grew up alongside her sister, Eleanor, with whom she shared a close and lasting bond. After marrying John, she made her home in Waycross, where together they raised their children and built a life filled with warmth and love.
Elaine was a loving mother to four children: Barney Spivey (wife Amy) of Douglas, Jaye Smith (husband Chuck) of Fernandina, John Spivey (wife Mary Ford) of Douglas, and Andy Spivey (wife Kim) of Blackshear. She was also the proud grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of four, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
She attended the University of Georgia and carried her Bulldog spirit throughout her life. Elaine dedicated her career to the Georgia Department of Human Resources, where her compassion and advocacy for individuals with disabilities touched many lives.
Elaine lived a rich and vibrant life. She loved fishing with her father, developed a passion for golf, and found joy in water aerobics and shopping trips. She cherished time spent in Fernandina and enjoyed playing bridge with friends in Waycross. She was a proud member of both the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.
Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Luell and Lester Brown; and her sister, Eleanor. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends.
A private family graveside gathering will be held to honor her life.
Elaine’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and service to others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
