Former Trojans in the college ranks had another good weekend on the football field last weekend. One has made a return to action following an injury while another entered the discussion for the first time this season.

Georgia Military’s Tyrese Woodgett, who is arguably having the best year of any Coffee High alum, had another solid performance on Saturday. The Bulldogs faced Louisburg College and won easily, 69-14. Woodgett led all GMC backs with 213 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs are 6-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Woodgett, a freshman, has rushed for 817 yards in seven games (115.7 yards per game, 13.1 yards per carry) with eight touchdowns. Woodgett also has 220 receiving yards and two receiving scores. He currently has 10 offers from four-year schools once he’s done at GMC, including Marshall and Georgia Southern. Woodgett has not announced where he plans to play after leaving Milledgeville.

Woodgett is leading the NJCAA in rushing yards and yards per rush. He is second in rushing touchdowns, and third in yards per game.

Linemen Jerzabeon Grant and Kyler Smith are doing exactly what they did at Coffee High – opening up holes for Woodgett. They’ve been right there with him all season long.

Former Coffee kicker Tug Vaughn, who has an offer from Allen University, did not play Saturday.

At Charleston Southern, defensive backs Jayden Hancock and Anthony Paulk are also playing well. Paulk had three tackles and a tackle for loss against Gardner-Webb on Saturday while Hancock tallied two tackles. Charleston Southern lost 30-27 to Gardner-Webb on Saturday. It’s been a rough season for the Buccaneers; they’re currently 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference. Paulk and Hancock, however, have been bright spots for the Buccaneers all season long.

Tulane running back Maurice Turner, who has been plagued by an ankle injury and missed several games after getting off to a great start, returned to action on September 27 against Tulsa. Tulane won 31-14. Turner had one carry for one yard. The Green Wave were off last week but face East Carolina in New Orleans tomorrow.

Western Carolina’s Jackson Banks played Saturday in the Catamounts’ 23-21 win over Wofford but did not record a tackle. Clark Atlanta’s Jaydon Verster, a long snapper, played in the September 27 game against Benedict College, a 59-24 loss. Clark Atlanta was off last week but play Albany State this week in Albany.

A new Coffee alum saw some playing time this week – former Trojan linebacker Chris Reed, now at Reinhardt, recorded one special teams tackle in the Eagles’ 40-16 win over Union Commonwealth on Saturday.
