Lyle grew up in the small town of Petrolia, Ontario Canada. He married and raised a family there until 1955 when he moved to Atlanta GA to work for General Motors where he got the opportunity to start a 33-year career with Dixie Pipeline Company in their Atlanta office. He managed the propane gas pipeline from Texas to North Carolina for most of his career. Lyle met Carol, a former high school teacher, and they married in 1972 and started a beautiful life together. Upon his retirement from Dixie Pipeline, they moved to Lake Oconee, GA and enjoyed life there for 7 years. To be closer to family they moved to Douglas, GA in 2001 and have enjoyed wonderful neighbors and dear friends ever since. Lyle was an active member of the First Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club. He participated in many charity projects and looked forward to playing Santa Claus for many years at Christmas for the children. Traveling back to Ontario every year and many other trips in the U.S. and abroad to see family and visit places of history were very enjoyable to Him and Carol. Family and his church family have always been very important to Him. Teaching Sunday School, visiting shut-ins, volunteering for various church and charity projects were very important to Him as well.
Though Lyle had many achievements in life, the most important one was the love he showed to people and his wonderful sense of humor. In his last days when asked what the secret to a happy life was, he said listen to people and care for them. His family will carry on with his legacy until we see him again.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at Douglas First Methodist Church.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Douglas First Methodist Church with Maj. Paul Elliott and Rev. Chris Calhoun officiating.
