On January 5, 2026, a Coffee County deputy responded to the Jet store on Highway 441 South in reference to a call you don’t hear much anymore – a gas drive-off.
The incident actually happened around 2 p.m. on January 3 when Matthew Rashad Deen, 24, of Douglas, went to the store to buy diesel fuel for his 2015 Chevrolet pickup. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, Deen handed the store manager a debit card so she would turn on the pump. The card, however, was not in Deen’s name.
With a presumably working debit card in hand, the pump was turned on and Deen fueled his truck. He pumped $122.92 into the Chevy then left without going back inside, leaving the debit card at the store, according to the report. An employee ran the card to pay for the fuel but the card was declined.
Another employee contacted the cardholder, who said Deen had given her a ride a few days earlier and she believed she may have left the card in the vehicle. Multiple employees contacted Deen via social media and asked him to return to the store to pay for the fuel. He said he would come back but he never did, according to the report.
Deen was arrested on January 8, 2026, and booked into the Coffee County Jail at 1:30 p.m. He was charged with driving away without paying for gasoline. He was released on a $500 property bond.
