The Keep Douglas Beautiful Board launched its 2026 initiatives with a kickoff meeting on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, led by newly appointed KDB Executive Director Destiny Paulk. The meeting marked the beginning of an active year focused on environmental stewardship, community pride and volunteer engagement throughout the City of Douglas.
During the kickoff meeting, several upcoming initiatives were outlined and the importance of volunteers in achieving KDB’s mission was emphasized. One of the first initiatives of the year is the Litter Index, an annual data-collection effort that will be conducted over the next month. The Litter Index is designed to assess litter levels throughout the community. The results are used to develop a local action plan aimed at changing attitudes and behaviors related to litter and other community improvement issues.
KDB will also host Clear Your Clutter on March 7, 2026, an event designed to assist elderly and disabled residents with removing unwanted items from their properties. Accepted items include brown and white goods only, such as furniture and appliances that have been fully drained and are free from chemicals. All items must be placed curbside for collection.
The Great(est) American Cleanup is scheduled for April 18, 2026. This nationwide initiative brings volunteers together to clean up neighborhoods that have been identified as having the greatest need. This year holds special significance as 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. KDB will focus efforts on targeted areas to make the greatest impact while encouraging residents to take pride in their surroundings.
Keep Douglas Beautiful encourages community members, civic groups, churches, schools, and local businesses to get involved. Volunteers are essential to the success of each event and play a vital role in keeping Douglas clean and beautiful.
