Dr. Guy Whitley Moorman Jr., age 81, of Douglas, GA, passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga, on March 8, 2026. He was born on March 30, 1944, the son of the late Dr. Guy Whitley Moorman and the late Mrs. Annie Frances Clower Moorman.
His survivors include: His beloved wife; Jeanette Elliott Moorman of Douglas, GA, Two Sons; Dr. Christopher Elliott (Leslie) Moorman, and Guy Whitley (Jennifer) Moorman III, One Daughter; Allison Fraser Trandem, Nine Grandchildren; Eli Moorman, Jacob Moorman, Caroline (Austin) Whitaker, Dr. Sam (Denisa) Boatright, Lee Moorman, Laurel Moorman, Weston Trandem, Ella Trandem, and Owen Trandem, Four Great Grandchildren; Brooks Whitaker, Evie Whitaker, Delanie Whitaker, and Iris Boatright, One Brother; Dr. Tom (Danelle) Moorman, One Sister; Jane Moorman Dennis, along with several Nieces, Nephews, Family and Friends. He was preceded in death by: His Grandson, Evan Trandem, and Brother in Law, Ron Dennis.
Guy graduated from Emory University in 1965, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1969, where he was a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity. Guy and Jeanette met at Emory and married in 1968. After graduation, Guy served 2 years as Captain in the United States Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Guy and Jeanette raised their 3 children in Douglas, where he had a very successful dental practice. Guy was an integral member of the Coffee County community, generously sharing his time and talent with many in need. Guy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Douglas for over 50 years and taught Sunday School for several years at the church. In 1994, he moved his church affiliation to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, where he continued as an active participant, serving on the vestry and as Senior Warden and “official” coffee maker. Guy was active in the Douglas Rotary Club, served as President of the organization, and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. Guy was highly engaged in leadership of the Coffee Regional Hospital, where he served on the Board and was Chairman of the Hospital Authority. Guy was passionate about environmental conservation. He was a long-time member of the Georgia Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and helped raise funds to purchase and protect the Broxton Rocks Preserve. He advocated locally to protect the Seventeen Mile River, which feeds into the Satilla River. Additionally, Guy was an original and active member of the Satilla Riverkeeper Board.
Funeral Services were held at First Methodist Church in Douglas, GA, on March 12th, with the Reverend Stephen Norris officiating.
