Baseball is a hard sport. Golf is even harder. To be at top of either sport, even for a moment, is special. To do it on the same day just a few hours apart is almost unheard of.
Yet that’s exactly what CCA golfer and designated hitter Jackson Knight did on Monday, April 14, 2026. The Patriots sent the golf team to play in the region golf match at Southern Hills Golf & Country Club in Hawkinsville. There was also a region baseball game later that day against the Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles in Douglas.
Knight had full intentions on playing in both contests but it was going to be a tight schedule for sure.
Ten teams played in the golf tournament, which included Class A and Class 2A teams (there is no standalone Class A golf classification). Knight fired a 73, good for a tie with teammate (and eighth grader) Ace Harris for the tournament’s low medalist honor.
After finishing his round, Jackson threw his clubs in the car and headed south to Patriot Field, where he would occupy the #7 spot in the batting order if he made it.
Knight made it back and was in the lineup. The game got off to a rocky start for sure. CCA scored a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead but didn’t score again until the fifth. And Knight was right in the middle of the action.
The Patriots scored a run to go up 2-0. Then they launched a two-out rally that brought Knight to the plate with CCA leading 3-0 with the bases loaded. Tyson Crosby scored on a wild pitch that advanced Mason Spivey to third and Clay Phillips to second. Knight locked in and connected with the next pitch, sending it over the left centerfield wall for a three-run home run that essentially put the game out of reach.
The Patriots would go on to win 9-0 and improve to 15-1 on the season and remain undefeated in region play.
Low medalist honors at the region golf tournament. A likely game-clinching home run a few hours later in a big region baseball game. Not a lot of people know what it feels like to do that in the same day.
But if you’d like a little insight into what that’s like, you can ask Jackson Knight. He knows as well as anyone.
