A 911 call in reference to a possible poisoning with rat poison took a very different turn when officers arrived on the scene.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, a deputy went to Edgewood Mobile Park on Maple Street after an individual called and said that someone had poisoned him with rat poison. When the deputy arrived, the individual was not at home but a neighbor said she had seen someone leave the home on a dark colored bike.
Another officer located the individual on the bike, who was identified as Matthew Rashad Deen, 24, of Douglas. The report says that Deen was not the individual who called 911 but he had been with him. Deen stated that the victim smoked some drugs then freaked out, saying that Deen had given him rat poison.
The officers ran Deen’s information and found an active warrant. Deen also gave the officers consent to search him. Officers found one pipe, a broken pipe, two needles, and piece of paper with suspected methamphetamine on it, the report says.
Deen was arrested on the warrant and for allegedly possessing methamphetamine. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine. The warrant was an active bench warrant for driving away without paying for gasoline. DouglasNow reported on the gas drive-off. Deen was arrested on January 8, 2026, for allegedly pumping over $122 of diesel fuel into his pickup then leaving without paying.
Deen is incarcerated in the Coffee County Jail.
