Mr. David Blake Hersey, age 75, of Broxton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2026, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, following a recent illness.
David, a lifelong resident of Coffee County, was born January 7, 1951, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late William Roie Hersey and the late Vivian Murray Hersey. He was an electrician associate by trade. He loved to work and hunting and fishing were some of his favorite hobbies, but above all his greatest title was that of “Poppy” to his grandchildren and he loved spoiling them as much as possible. He was an active member of Providence Baptist Church for many years.
David is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Barbara D. Hersey of Broxton, Georgia; his daughter and son-in-law Cori and Anthony Busby of Broxton, Georgia; his son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Niki Hersey of Broxton; his grandchildren: Brianna (Josh) Coleman of Nicholls, Georgia; Cole Busby of Nicholls, Georgia, Sara (Dean) Loiacano of Tampa, Florida, Mary Jo and Monroe Hersey of Broxton, Georgia; his great-grandchildren: Cyrus Coleman and Eleanor Loiacano; two sisters (Delores) J. B. Strickland of Everton, Ga. and Linda (Bouncer) Gillis of Phenix City, Alabama; one brother, Howard Hersey, (Dianne) of Augusta, Georgia; four sisters-in-law Helen Jowers, Kathryn Brown, Linda Bagley (Tony), and Beth Hersey; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by siblings Buddy Hersey, Wanelle Hersey Heape, Paul Hersey, Chester Hersey and James Roe Hersey.
David’s family will receive friends on Thursday evening, May 14, 2026, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, May 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Courson, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Kirkland and Rev. H. P. Murray officiating.
Active pallbearers will include Michael Hersey, Matthew Hersey, William Hersey, Marty Stone, Lamar Dale, and Carroll Dale.
Honorary pallbearers will included Providence Baptist Church Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Bro. Donnie and Liz Kirkland, Daryl Davis, Ashley Mullis, and Rudy Long.
