A “super high” suspect fled deputies, led them on a chase, and ultimately crashed into a ditch earlier this month, according to a sheriff’s office report.
The report says that around 2:20 a.m. on August 2, 2026, a deputy saw a 2007 Toyota Camry with no tag light while patrolling Highway 221 and Fairfield Road. The report states that the officer got behind the Camry and the driver, identified as Ty Michael Gilliard, 19, of Douglas, sped up and ran a stop sign. The officer initiated a traffic stop but Gilliard didn’t stop, the report says. Gilliard attempted to turn on to Spring Oak Street and went into the ditch, ending the incident.
The officer placed Gilliard in handcuffs. In the report, Gilliard stated that he had been in Alma where he had “smoked weed and got super high.” He fled the officer, the report says, because he didn’t want to get caught.
Officers searched the Camry and did not find anything illegal. Gilliard was arrested and charged with a number of traffic violations as well as DUI-drugs and fleeing/attempting to elude officers. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and released on bond.
