Coffee Regional Medical Center is celebrating a significant achievement for its Internal Medicine Residency Program as two resident physicians have had their research abstracts selected for oral presentations at the American College of Physicians (ACP) Georgia Chapter Meeting, taking place October 9–11 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The selection represents a meaningful honor for both residents and is a reflection of the growing academic strength of Coffee Regional Medical Center’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. Having two resident physicians selected to present their work at a statewide professional meeting provides an opportunity for their research to be shared with physicians, educators and healthcare professionals from across Georgia.
The selected residents and their research topics are:
Sadia Afrin, M.D.
“County-Level Differences in Heart Disease Mortality in Georgia, 2018–2024: A Dashboard-based Analysis”
Dr. Afrin’s research examines differences in heart disease mortality across Georgia counties, using data visualization and dashboard-based analysis to explore geographic patterns in cardiovascular health outcomes.
Hadequa Noor Khan, M.D.
“Artificial Intelligence and Telemedicine in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Narrative Review”
Dr. Khan’s presentation explores the evolving role of artificial intelligence and telemedicine in the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus, highlighting emerging opportunities for technology to support patient care and chronic disease management.
For a residency program in its early years, the opportunity for two residents to present their work at a respected statewide medical meeting is an exciting accomplishment.

The ACP Georgia Chapter Meeting brings together internal medicine physicians, residents, medical students and other healthcare professionals for educational programming, professional development and the exchange of clinical knowledge and research.
Coffee Regional Medical Center’s ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program welcomed its inaugural class of residents in July 2026. The three-year program is affiliated with Mercer University School of Medicine and is designed to prepare physicians for careers in internal medicine and future fellowship training or primary care practice.
The selection of Dr. Afrin and Dr. Khan’s abstracts so early in the program’s history marks an exciting milestone for the residency and Coffee Regional Medical Center’s continued commitment to medical education, research and advancing healthcare in a rural community.
