Charleston Southern’s Jayden Hancock was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week following his two-touchdown performance against Western Illinois.
In the game, Hancock collected just one tackle but had one of the most impactful defensive performances of the season. He scored two touchdowns in the game to bring the game to level at 35 apiece in the fourth quarter. He scored the first off a pick-six, returning it for 39 yards and got the second on a scoop-and-score on a lateral pass that he returned 19 yards to the endzone.
In total, this becomes the eighth weekly award for a Buccaneer from the OVC this season. They have had Tristan Lennon earn Defensive Player of the Week (9/14) and Steve Zayachkowsky twice (10/12 and 10/26). Baxter Pearce was chosen as the Freshman of the Week (9/7) while Matt Rolader earned Special Team Player of the Week twice (9/14 and 10/5) as well as Quay Kindell once (10/12).
