The Coffee County School System is pleased to announce the hiring of Mrs. Allyson Speight as the new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
A lifelong resident of Douglas, Mrs. Speight is a highly driven educational leader with 27 years of dedicated service to the Coffee County School System. She currently serves as the district’s Director of Assessment and Accountability, where she has played a pivotal role in aligning instructional systems with district strategic initiatives to support continuous improvement across all schools.
Mrs. Speight’s academic journey reflects her deep commitment to education and to the Coffee County community. A 1995 graduate of Coffee High School, she began her post-secondary studies at South Georgia College, earning an Associate of Science in Education in 1997. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education at Valdosta State University in 1999, followed by a Master of Science in Educational Leadership in 2004. Continuing her advanced studies at Valdosta State, she earned an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership in 2009 and is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Curriculum Leadership.
Throughout her tenure at the district level, Mrs. Speight has served as the primary liaison for state and local assessments, system accreditation, state accountability (CCRPI), and the district’s charter system contract. She also facilitates the development and monitoring of the district’s Five-Year Strategic Plan and provides annual updates to the Board of Education on the progress of key initiatives. She has coordinated multiple components of Federal Programs, managing funding for essential initiatives, including ESOL, Migrant Education, and the Rural Education Achievement Program, and securing resources to strengthen support for academic success.
Prior to her district leadership role, Mrs. Speight served as Principal of Broxton-Mary Hayes Elementary School from 2013 to 2020. Under her leadership, the school was recognized as a Georgia Department of Education Title I High Progress School for five consecutive years (2014–2018). Her administrative experience also includes service as Assistant Principal at West Coffee Middle School and Coffee Middle School, where she focused on instructional leadership, coaching, and developing professional learning communities (PLCs) to strengthen instructional practice.
Mrs. Speight began her career as a first-grade teacher at Indian Creek Elementary, giving her a strong foundation in the literacy and numeracy skills essential for early learners.
“Mrs. Speight’s leadership is defined by a belief that every moment matters when fostering students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being,” said district leadership. “Her expertise in data-driven practices and her ability to build genuine relationships with staff, students, and families will be invaluable as we continue our mission of Destination Graduation for College, Career, and Life.”
