Cheese Stars, Straws or Crackers, however you call them, have been a staple at every wedding, baby shower, bridal shower or any other event in the South for as long as I remember! I have recently served these at a couple events and got glowing reviews and requests for the recipe. There was a restaurant in Nashville, GA named “Mimi’s” and it came out of the cookbook Mimi sold. Apparently she was a great cook! Note to remember, if you don’t like “spicy.” you may want to cut back on the cayenne pepper. Hope you enjoy!  Cheese Crackers (Straws or…

Do you ever go through a period of preparing a dessert or an entrée and everything just seems to not work out or even be edible? That has been my dilemma lately! I tried a strawberry cake and then a fruit pizza. My pizza recipe had a crescent roll for the crust and it was horrible. My family were brutally honest and I took it in stride because I felt the same way. The strawberry cake was cooked too long and the icing was too thin. But I did not give up! Today I prepared the Fruit Pizza again and…

Sometimes simple is just the best and sometimes complex can be more satisfying. What a profound statement from a woman of a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants style. Being ADD (attention deficit disorder) can be frustrating, to say the least. I run from one thing to the other and oftentimes not completing all I had planned to accomplish in a day. From ironing, cleaning house, working two jobs, washing, and catching up on bookwork is so demanding in my daily life. I dearly love spending time with the Grands, our family and cooking for them. Wow, how my time just evades me!   Of…

I promise this is my last soup recipe! When the cool weather returned for a day or two, I took advantage of the coolness and made another pot. I experimented with a couple recipes I found and came up with my own version. I bought some sourdough bread and “sopped” up the liquid! Out of this world good!  Hope you enjoy! Pam Tuscan Sausage & Bean Soup 1 pound sausage, cut into rounds (Italian or any of your choice) 1 large onion, diced 3 ribs celery, diced 2 large carrots, sliced into rounds 2-3 tablespoons of tomato paste 1 teaspoon…

It is customary in the South to shower brides when they are engaged to be married. We can “put on the dog” when it comes to celebrating an upcoming wedding in a setting with plenty of finger foods, punch and the such. Years ago you were given a corsage to wear, play silly games and pass all the gifts around for everyone attending to “ooh and aah” over. One particular shower that I had was at the home of Ms. Minnie Vickers. I only knew Ms. Minnie for a short period of time but she was truly a Southern Belle…
