Suspected cop killer Damien Anthony “Luke” Ferguson has been arrested less than a mile from where authorities believe he shot and killed Alamo police officer Dylan Harrison early Saturday morning. A South Georgia State College student is in custody after a non-fatal shooting took place Thursday night on South Shirley Avenue. According to reports obtained from the Douglas Police Department, officers responded to Coffee Regional Medical Center to investigate the shooting of Damion Harrell, who had been shot in the right wrist while riding in an older model green Toyota. On Friday, pictures of the closed aisles began circulating on social media platforms along with speculation about why the aisles might be closed. David Varnedore is the new owner of the building located at 101 North Peterson Avenue, known locally as the old Douglas Asphalt building. After sitting vacant for many years, the county bought the building in December of 2018 for $225,000. The county planned on renovating the building and using at an annex to the courthouse. No charges are expected after a nine-month-old child died at a local daycare center last month, according to authorities. Little Hunter Hersey, aged nine months, died on May 3, 2021 at a Savannah hospital after a pinto bean lodged in his throat while at Akim. Bright from the Start, the state agency that licenses childcare centers in Georgia, shut down the facility pending an investigation. The investigation has been completed and Akim has been closed. A Valdosta man was hospitalized after a he was shot as a result of a suspected road rage incident at Truck Week in Daytona last weekend and a group of Douglas residents were nearly caught in the crossfire.
