Officials at Indian Creek Elementary School called law enforcement to campus after a teacher noticed a suspicious man in a wooded area watching students on the playground. According to a statement released by the Coffee County Board of Education Tuesday afternoon, the incident took place on Jan. 20 around 1 p.m. While students were playing on the playground, one of the teachers noticed a man, kneeling down in the wooded area near the playground and bus drop off. Around 5 p.m. Sunday, a suspected tornado overturned a mobile home and destroyed chicken houses in the Mora community. First responders from Coffee County noticed a strong odor of gas and saw power lines on the ground when they arrived. In spite of the dangers, they were able to investigate the scene and found that no one was in the mobile home or inside the chicken houses. All told, the tornado completely destroyed the mobile home, two chicken houses, a pick-up, and three irrigation lines. Neighbors soon arrived and began helping clean the debris as much as possible. Coffee County remains under both tornado and flash flood watches after one storm system ripped through the area Sunday morning and with another one bearing down later in the day. Torrential rains, high winds, and dangerous lightning accompanied the Sunday morning storm. More of the same is forecast for Sunday afternoon. Gov. Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency for seven counties; Coffee isn’t one of those but its neighbor to the south, Atkinson, is. Last week, Ameris Bank and Davita Dialysis made sizeable donations to the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County. Tyreek Hill and the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs saw their season end Sunday night at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers in Kansas City. The Steelers defeated the Chiefs 18-16 after a successful Kansas City two-point conversion with just under three minutes left that would have tied the game at 18 was called back on a holding call. The subsequent re-do from 10 yards back fell incomplete. On their ensuing possession, the Steelers got a few key first downs then ran out the clock for the win. On Tuesday, Jan. 10, a Coffee County school bus was involved in a one vehicle accident during its morning route near Ambrose. There were two students on the bus at the time of the accident. Neither of the students had any visible injuries; however, one did go to the emergency room after school. It’s happened again. Just a few days after a bomb threat was reported at Pilgrim’s Pride in Douglas, the plant received another bomb threat – this one more ominous than the first one. Friday, the initial bomb threat referenced an explosive in a car in the parking lot. Monday, the threat involved a bomb in the plant and firearms. Police and firemen had McNeal Drive blocked from 441 North to North Gaskin Avenue, causing traffic problems in that heavily-traveled area. Friday night, four individuals led troopers from the Georgia State Patrol on a high speed chase, according to the Coffee County Georgia Police Scanner Facebook page. The pursuit began on 441 South. From there, it went to Rebecca Waldron Road and Waldron Road before ending with four arrests on Greenfield Circle in the Green Acres community. Officers led the individuals away in handcuffs. There were two males and two females. Their identities, however, have not been released. Neither have any charges. Officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department and the HEAT Unit assisted in the chase. The investigation is ongoing.…

A Friday morning bomb threat at Pilgrim’s Pride turned out be – as usual – a false alarm. Authorities responded to Pilgrim’s Pride about 9:30 a.m. Friday after someone called in and reported a bomb on the premises. Supposedly, the bomb was in a car in the parking lot not inside the plant itself. Police and fire arrived on the scene and searched the McNeal Drive facility.
