Every year, members of the MLK Jr. Celebration Committee of Coffee County come together to host a special day-long event to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s accomplishments and constant fight for civil rights. A 42-year-old man has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, obstruction, and other charges after he ran into a stranger’s home in an attempt to avoid law enforcement. Prior to the incident, an investigator with the Coffee County Drug Unit saw Bobby Lee Hilliard, “acting suspiciously” in the area of 350 New Forest Highway. As detectives attempted to approach Hilliard to speak with him, he walked into a house at the location. An employee of the Irwin County Detention Center was recently arrested on drug possession charges after she was reportedly discovered asleep in her vehicle at a gas pump at a local convenience store. A Douglas Police Department incident report states that on New Year’s Day, around 8:00 a.m., an officer pulled into the Gate convenience store to fill up her patrol car.
