Georgia senior outfielder Keegan McGovern has been selected by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday. During Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Series at Charlotte race, the #38 David Ragan Ford remembered Sgt. 1st Class Ricky Crockett, a Broxton native who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. SFC Crockett was killed by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Baghdad. SFC Crockett was a U.S. Army mechanic who had served in the Army for 20 years and was to retire later that year. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a tattooed accused felon and officials are hoping the citizens of the community can help locate him. Officers want Michael Lorn Chapman, a white male, 27, 5’11” and 160 pounds, on a variety of serious charges. Chapman’s arms, neck, chest, stomach, and back are covered in tattoos. He has a tattoo on the hairline of his forehead that says “Shot Out,” “Self Made” on his knuckles, and “Ghost Face” around one ear. Mr. O’Steen, a World War II veteran who later became a gifted architect in civilian life, left his stamp on a number of local buildings, including churches, schools, government buildings, and private residences. Vibrant and active well into his 90s, Mr. O’Steen was an important member of the Douglas-Coffee County community who will be greatly missed. Just ask Jeremy Ely Gaskins and Garrett Zackary Adams, both of whom were apprehended after Gaskins allegedly attempted to outrun police, first in a vehicle then on foot. The two men are in custody after fleeing from the Douglas-Coffee HEAT Unit Wednesday morning, leading to an aerial and foot pursuit that lasted through mid-afternoon. The City of Douglas will soon be looking for a new city manager. After nearly 11 years, city manager Terrell Jacobs has announced he is resigning his position, effective June 15, 2018. Jacobs made the announcement during executive session following Monday night’s regular city commission meeting. Jacobs has served as Douglas’s city manager since June 2007.
