The GBI’s Douglas Regional Office was requested Friday by the Lakeland Police Department to investigate the shooting death of 32-year-old Willis Lamar Flintroyal. According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers with the Lakeland Police Department responded to 75 E. Peeler Ave. in reference to a shooting. Officers found Flintroyal suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived. He was transported to South Georgia Medical Center in Lakeland and was later pronounced dead. Another victim, 32-year-old Schalonda Beatrice Johnson, was also transported to SGMC in Lakeland with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. While at the Peeler Ave. location, officers heard…

A 20-year-old Waycross mother was arrested on drug-related and other charges by Alma police earlier this week following an incident that began as a minor traffic violation. Police initiated a stop on Lindsay Brooke Parks Thursday afternoon on N. Baker St at E. 9th St. in Alma. As Parks exited her vehcile, she allegedly dropped several pills, later identifed as the controlled substance Tramadol, onto the ground. Officers recovered a total of 13 pills from the ground and inside of the vehicle. Three people were arrested recently following a three-month investigation into the illegal sale of prescription drugs. Coffee County sheriff’s officials reported Thursday that local agents, accompanied by the Georgia Bureau of Narcotics, executed a search warrant at a residence on Tony Davis Rd. in West Green. The operation was conducted following a lengthy investigation that included seveal controlled purchases of prescription narcotics by the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit, authorities stated. Four individuals from the Atlanta area were arrested in Coffee County recently following an investigation into prescription forgeries at the Douglas Wal-Mart. Coffee County sheriff’s authorities reported the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) was contacted by an agent from the Georgia Bureau of Drugs and Narcotics on Aug. 23, who stated his agency had previously contacted Coffee County 911 about an attempted prescription forgery in progress at the Douglas Wal- Mart Store. Two men were arrested by Alma police over the weekend following a home invasion in which the victim was allegedly tied up before the assailants stole cash and other valuables. Authorities reported Alma police responded to a residence on Magnolia Dr. just before midnight Friday, where they discovered two people had kicked in the door, tied the victim, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and two gold rings. Acting on a recommendation from the state’s Emergency Operations Command in anticipation of Tropical Storm Hermine’s imminent Florida landfall, Gov. Nathan Deal today signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency for 56 counties. Coffee County school officials announced this morning all schools will be closed for students and staff Friday, Sept. 2, in expectation of severe weather anticipated for the area. Classes will resume Tuesday, September 6, as Monday is a holiday. Tropical Storm Hermine continues to gain strength off the gulf coast of Florida and is expected to make landfall tonight as a Category 1 hurricane.
