A 27-year-old man from Douglas was involved in a fatal traffic accident on U.S. 1 near Hilliard, Fla., Sunday afternoon, according to News4Jax. Even though the Patriots finished with over 20 wins (22-11), an exit in the second round of the playoffs wasn’t what the CCA faithful expected. On Friday, May 10, 2024, a Douglas man was awakened by an Atkinson County investigator after his brother-in-law, identified as Vernon Christopher Royals, 36, of Willacoochee, was involved in a hit and run accident in Atkinson County. The GBI has arrested and charged Roger Goddard, age 50, of Douglas, Georgia, with Surveillance Which Invades the Privacy of Another and False Statements. The Coffee County Board of Education Police Department asked the GBI to investigate in Feburary 2024 after someone notified them that Goddard and another person were observed putting a tracking device on a teacher’s car on school property. Goddard was employed as the Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Douglas and was a Georgia POST-certified law enforcement officer. University of North Georgia Nighthawks senior pitcher Wes Lott and sophomore second baseman Brady Skipper finished strong 2024 campaigns and were a factor in helping lead the Nighthawks to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. After nearly 15 months on the run, fugitive Danny West Jr. is back in jail. On February 25, 2023, West, who was being held in the Ben Hill County Jail, escaped from a funeral in Douglas. He had requested to attend the funeral and Ben Hill County authorities agreed to his request.
