Officers from the Douglas Police Department are investigating a shooting that took place on Monday, August 7, 2023, in which one family member allegedly shot another family member. According to a press release from the police department, the shooting took place at 910 South Madison Avenue — directly behind the Dairy Queen. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the victim, who advised that a family member had shot him. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Antonio DeJesus Andrade, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after an alleged fight that occurred around 10 p.m. on July 24. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the alleged incident took place at Bear Creek Mobile Home Park. The officers arrived, they spoke to three individuals, one of whom was the victim. On Tuesday, July 25, officers responded to Fleetwood Homes in Douglas regarding someone allegedly entering another individual’s vehicle. Upon arrival, the victim reported to the officer that $238 was missing from his truck and that there was video footage of 58-year-old Kelvin Freeman entering his Chevy Silverado. According to the report, the officer was able to confirm through the surveillance video that Freeman did in fact walk to the individual’s truck and open the passenger door. Upon arrival, an officer learned an individual had crashed his car into a light pole due to his vehicle allegedly being shot at by 40-year-old Kenjarvece Woodson. A suspect wanted by Coffee County Drug Unit detectives for obstruction couldn’t believe that he would also be hit with methamphetamine charges when officers finally caught up with him. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, earlier in the month, Brandon Morgan, 40, allegedly fled from officers on a four-wheeler and went through a patch of woods to avoid arrest. On July 28, officers from the drug unit arrested Danqwaz Bailey, 33, at 910 MLK Drive in Douglas — just 207 feet from the freshman campus — on a variety of drug charges. On July 27, detectives from the Coffee County Drug Unit were watching a vehicle that the officers believed was involved in drug trafficking in the area. Late last month, a chance encounter between a detective and a suspected drug dealer landed a Douglas woman in jail on methamphetamine trafficking charges. According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, a detective saw Delita Gale Montoya, 47, pull into a convenience store in the county.
