The long arm of the law extends quite a distance. And sometimes those arms are working the same investigation in two different places. Four suspected drug dealers from Coffee County found that out late last week. Several individuals suspected of being involved in a Douglas area drug dealing operation were recently jailed in Houston County as the Coffee County Drug Unit (CCDU) was conducting its own local investigation. CCDU authorities obtained information that the suspects had sold crack cocaine from a garage adjacent to a Douglas residence and subsequently applied for a search warrant of the area. …

An Atkinson County sheriff’s deputy has been suspended for two weeks following an investigation that Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore launched after allegations surfaced that the deputy allowed a possible drunk driver go free because the driver exposed herself to him during a traffic stop. The month of May got off to a rocky start for a Nicholls man. On May 1, Richard Hailey, 38, of Nicholls, was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking and criminal trespass (family violence) after he allegedly violated a temporary protective order (TPO) by visiting his estranged wife’s house. According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, Hailey went to his estranged wife’s house on Deer Run Road. Hailey’s wife had a TPO on him. The report states that once Hailey arrived at the house, his wife ran into a room and locked herself inside. …
