The Keep Douglas Beautiful Committee held its first Trash Dash Plogging Event on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Over 60 volunteers walked the Greenway Trail to help pick up litter and collect debris along the trail. Two groups walked the trail from Chester Avenue to Douglas Square and collected over 50 bags of trash and two shopping carts. “We were so excited to see how many came and supported our event,” says Keep Douglas Beautiful Board Executive Director, Christian Mikell. “We had a fantastic turnout and enjoyed the beautiful morning plogging along the trail.” According to Keep…
A Richmond County man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to persuading a child to produce sexually explicit images. Tibius Edwards, 26, of Augusta, was sentenced to 180 months in prison after pleading guilty to Production of Child Pornography, said Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. U.S. District Court Chief Judge J. Randal Hall also ordered Edwards to register as a sex offender and to serve 20 years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. …

Collaboration between South Georgia State College (SGSC), Wiregrass Technical College (WGTC), and Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) was strengthened recently with the signing of new articulation agreements that provide additional educational opportunities for students. A Burke County man has been sentenced to federal prison after investigators discovered a massive cache of images of sexually exploited children on devices in his possession. Jason Bonds Connelly, 61, of Waynesboro, Ga., was sentenced to 110 months in prison after pleading guilty to Possession of Child Pornography, said Jill E. South Georgia State College won both games of the 10th annual Applebee’s Okefenokee College Classic this past weekend on SGSC’s Waycross Campus. In addition, Kyric Davis was named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The Hawks (3-2) took advantage of strong shooting Friday to defeat the Wake Technical Community College Eagles 80-63. Davis led SGSC with 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
