Coffee County Extension and the Georgia Department of Agriculture will be hosting the Georgia Department of Agriculture Clean Day on August 16, 2023 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Coffee County Tri County Gin. South Georgia State College celebrated its graduates during SGSC’s annual commencement ceremonies May 11 on the Douglas Campus and May 12 on the Waycross Campus. Family members and friends gathered on each campus to cheer on a portion of the 339 graduates from summer and fall 2022 and spring 2023. Dr. Jim Cottingham, Vice President Emeritus for Student Affairs and Professor Emeritus of Education and Psychology for SGSC, served as the commencement speaker for the Douglas ceremony. On Thursday, July 6, 2023, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit arrested and charged William Zachary Tilley, age 19, of Coffee County, GA, with six counts of sexual exploitation of children and two counts of aggravated child molestation. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Tilley’s online activity after receiving a Cyber Tipline Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possible online possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. Zachary Sheppard has been named the new Telecommunications and Security Instructor for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus. Sheppard has over six years of experience in the telecommunication industry. His experience includes; installing commercial and residential camera systems, fiber optic networks, and cabling commercial buildings and residential for cameras, alarms, phones, access control and networks.
