Students receiving Distinguished Honor status are those who have completed 45 or more academic semester hours at ABAC with an overall grade point average of 3.75 or higher. The City of Douglas has received re-designation as a PlanFirst Community from Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The Coffee Trojans track and field teams both finished sixth at the Game Changers Apex Invite in Richmond Hill on Friday. The schools were from a variety of classifications. The Trojans set 17 personal records at this meet. The GBI has arrested and charged Miguel Contreras, 19, with Aggravated Assault, and Augustine Medrano, 20, with Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault and Hindering the Apprehension of a Criminal. Both are from Omega, Ga., in Tift County. On Sunday, March 19, 2023, the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate a shooting that occurred at an event center in the 500 block of Baxley Highway in Hazlehurst. Last week, officers in Jeff Davis County posed as employees on a solar panel site to apprehend a fugitive who had been on the run for nearly four years. He allegedly skipped bond stemming from charges in Americus in 2019. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 3 requested assistance in the location and arrest of Jacori Devontae Peters, who was arrested in 2019 and granted bond but later skipped town after not appearing in court.
