Ms. Opal Lynn Peterson, age 52 of Douglas, passed away Monday morning, June 29, 2020 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, following a short illness. Ms. Peterson was born October 29, 1967 to Opal Sutton Peterson and the late Roy Earl Peterson. Ms. Peterson, a native of Coffee County, was employed in Quality Assurance at Pilgrim’s Pride in Douglas. The City of Douglas Fire Department would like to encourage citizens to practice safety with fireworks and would like to make the public aware of a few facts about the fireworks law. The State of Georgia allows for consumer fireworks to be sold statewide. According to 2018 Georgia legislation, fireworks can be used during the hours of 10am and 9:00pm.
