Sara Hayes Davis Tift passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the age of ninety-eight from natural causes. She lived a long life of joy and love. After marrying Van Davis and graduating from the University of Georgia in 1943, they moved to Douglas, Georgia in 1948. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Douglas and taught in the Coffee County schools for thirty years in the field of physical education and health. City of Douglas Commission meetings will resume beginning June 8, 2020, 7pm, at the CE Weir Center, located at 307 W. Bryan Street. Agenda items, that were previously scheduled for meetings March through May, are expected to be discussed during the June meetings. Mrs. Ouzts was born on August 14, 1931 in Colquitt County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Charles Emmitt Mims and Josie Perryman Mims. The Douglas-Coffee County Land Bank (LBA) sold its first house on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. The new owner will renovate the home so that it will be available for rent as soon as possible. Designed to acquire and maintain problem properties, the LBA will transfer the properties back to responsible ownership and productive/revenue generating use in our community which will create a more efficient and effective system to eliminate problem areas/blight in Douglas and Coffee County.
