SGSC students from the theatre and nursing programs participate in Teen Maze event It’s all about choices. This is the message of the Teen Maze at Pierce County Middle School (PCMS) in Blackshear, Georgia. South Georgia State College (SGSC) theatre students and nursing students from the Waycross and Douglas campuses came together to support the Pierce County Family Connection at this year’s event. “Teen Maze is an outstanding and thought provoking program that helps middle and high school students see the firsthand effects of life altering decisions through real life demonstrations,” explained Katherine LeRoy-Lawson, SGSC assistant professor of theatre.…
Wiregrass names semi-finalists for GOAL Award Four Wiregrass Georgia Technical College students have been selected as the college’s semi-finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to Molly Sumner, coordinator for the Wiregrass GOAL program. Chosen as semifinalists are: Jacquelyn Mallard (Automotive Collision Repair) Valdosta Campus, Rose Sysskind (Practical Nursing) Valdosta Campus, Megan Wolfe (Automotive Technology) Valdosta Campus, and Keith Wright (Barbering) Valdosta Campus. Eastside Elementary Pre-K enjoys first field trip What a great first field trip adventure the Eastside Elementary Pre-K students enjoyed as they traveled to Rutland’s Pumpkin Patch. The students were greeted by the friendly staff at Rutland’s Farms. Rutland Farms is a beautiful “child friendly learning adventure farm” that provides learning opportunities each season. The children in Ms. Barbaree and Mrs. Shavettes’s class enjoyed a short walk on the farm through the tree crops to the animal barn. Mr. Howard Smith, age 82 of Ambrose, passed away Sunday morning, October 27, 2019 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born September 8, 1937 to the late Oliver E. Smith and the late Laura Merritt Smith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny H. Smith. Mr. Smith, a native of Coffee County, was a farmer in the Ambrose community. June Carolyn Lane Hattaway, age 88, of Pearson, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at her residence. June Carolyn Lane was born on February 20, 1931, in Manatee, Florida. Her parents were Lewis Howard Lane and Rhoda Matilda Rice Lane. She had one older sister, Dorothy Mae, and one younger brother, Dewey Edward. Her parents worked at a crate mill in Manatee. Austin Wilson Harper, age 78, of Baxley, passed away on Thursday October 24, 2019 at Memorial Health in Savannah. Mr. Harper was born on June 7, 1941 in Ocilla, the son of the late Wilson Harper and the late Alda Vickers Harper McDonald. He worked as a service contractor with General Mobile Homes.
