The South Georgia State College Hawks have won their sixth consecutive game while also receiving recognition at the state and national level. Antonio Vendola had 12 points and Marquise Jackson had 10 points to lead the Hawks (6-0) to an 80-65 win Tuesday night against Florida Gateway College (FGC). The Hawks led by as many as 26 points in the second half, but FGC managed to cut the lead to 11 points twice in the final 20 minutes. South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team swept the Applebee’s Okefenokee College Classic this past weekend in Waycross, keeping its perfect record intact through the first five games of the regular season. The Hawks (5-0) defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) 64-60 Saturday afternoon and Denmark Tech 88-71 Friday night. “This past weekend was great with unbelievable crowds on both days,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “Applebee’s is always a great sponsor of the Classic, and this year may have been the best. Minix has some violent charges in his history so do not approach him. SGSC awarded continual accreditation for nursing programs The Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing (ACEN) has awarded full accreditation to the South Georgia State College Associate of Science in Nursing program and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program through spring of 2027. ACEN accreditation is a voluntary, self-regulatory process by which non-governmental associations recognize educational institutions or programs that have been found to meet or exceed standards and criteria for educational quality. Mark M. Mobley, age 84, of West Green, passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2019 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mark was born on August 7, 1935 in Coffee County, the son of the late Leonard Monroe Mobley and the late Hortense Wilcox Mobley.
