SGSC hosts Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) to grow future leaders By Sarah Braswell Early this summer, over sixty rising 11th and 12th graders from Southeast Georgia congregated on South Georgia State College’s Douglas Campus to be recognized for their leadership skills at the 2019 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, better known as RYLA. Clubs within Rotary District 6920 recognize and sponsor one to four students from their club area who have demonstrated leadership ability to attend RYLA. Ms. Marsha Suggs, age 60 of Willacoochee, passed away Sunday morning, July 14, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. Ms. Suggs was born September 3, 1958 to the late John R. Suggs and the late Inell McIntyre Suggs. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her long-time companion, Charles Jewell and two siblings, Marjorie Suggs and Freddy Suggs.Ms. Suggs, a native of Ocala, Fla., was self-employed in the landscaping business. Mr. Ronnie Ricketson, age 71 of Douglas, passed away early Sunday morning, July 21, 2019 at Candler Hospital in Savannah following an extended illness. Mr. Ricketson was born August 27, 1947 to the late Alvin Ricketson and the late Doris Elizabeth Rozar Ricketson. The funeral service will be Saturday morning, July 27, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Rocky Pond Baptist Church. The interment will follow in Salem Cemetery will full military rites. JoAnn Minshew, age 71, of Broxton, passed away on Monday morning July 22, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Minshew was born on March 20, 1948 in Telfair County, the daughter of the late Johnnie Hulett and Clifford Beulah Hart Hulett. 4-H’ers attend camp at Rock Eagle Kevin Tatum University of Georgia Extension Service It started early on a hot, muggy Monday morning on July 1. Forty-seven 4-H members and leaders met up in the parking lot on the south end of town to load their luggage and board the school bus bound for the Rock Eagle 4-H Center. They were all headed to 4-H camp, many for their first week-long adventure away from mom and dad. The trip to Rock Eagle would take about three to four hours with a stop for lunch on the way up.
