The Georgia Department of Labor is helping the Georgia Federal-State Inspection Service by hosting hiring events on July 12 at several locations around the state. The agency is seeking temporary peanut inspectors and inspector’s aides. The City of Douglas is currently seeking volunteers to fill vacancies on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Recreation Commission. The individual must live within the city limits of Douglas. The purpose of the zoning commission is to make recommendations to the City and County on matters involving planning, zoning, subdivisions and other land use issues. The Recreation Commission makes recommendations to the Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department and City of Douglas regarding recreation department athletics, programming and other issues. The annual conference provides city officials with an opportunity to learn more about legislation under consideration, attend training sessions, and hear from state leaders. On June 15-17, three Coffee County student-athletes traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to compete in the USA Weightlifting Youth National Championships. This competition is the culminating event for lifters ages 17 and under. In order to qualify for the event, lifters must make a qualifying total in their respective age group and weight class in a sanctioned USA Weightlifting meet. The competition consists of two lifts known as the snatch and the clean and jerk. Lifters are given three attempts in the snatch and three attempts in the clean and jerk. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College has learned that the Pharmacy Technology program is ranked #4 in Georgia and #15 in the nation. This ranking was announced by the Pharmacy Technician Guide. The guide ranks colleges that are ASHP/ACPE Accredited, and all accredited pharmacy technician programs in the United States were reviewed.
