The South Georgia State College Hawks earned four wins over Georgia Highlands in a week of baseball action to bring their overall record to 27-14 with a conference record of 13-6. This four-game winning streak has moved the Hawks into second place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) ranking. Beverly Johns recently attended the Council of Probate Court Judges Spring Conference. This conference is sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education and was held at the King and Prince Resort for Continuing Education in St. Simons Island, Ga., March 19-22. The Judges attended judicial training courses. Course topics this year included: Self-Representing Litigants, Licenses, Wills & Estates, Unclaimed Funds, Missing Heirs, Interpreters and Mock Trial Scenarios. Probate Judges are now required to become certified. This certification requires Judges to complete required courses and test within a certain time frame. Sunday, April 1, the Alma Police Department arrested Michael Overstreet, 32 of Alma, for financial transaction card fraud. Overstreet’s arrest followed the illegal use of another’s debit card at Pizza Hut on March 31. Also, on Sunday, April 1, APD arrested Jacqueline Simms, 53 of Alma, on outstanding warrants for terroristic threats and acts. Simms’s arrest followed a March 17 incident at which time Simms was witnessed threatening to kill another.
