Clinch Memorial Hospital has entered into an agreement with Meridian Healthcare Group to develop and operate a pulmonary rehabilitation and diagnostic center in Homerville, Georgia. The rehabilitation center began operations in March 15, 2018. This new Pulmonary Rehabilitation & Diagnostics Center will focus on the care of patients with chronic lung diseases. Chronic lung diseases include emphysema and chronic bronchitis commonly referred to as COPD. COPD is the third leading cause of death and the second leading cause of disability in the United States, afflicting over 30 million Americans. Thursday, March 8th, the Alma Police Department arrested Christian Morris, 26 of Miami, for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and a seatbelt violation. Friday, March 9th, APD responded to a burglary on E. 12th St. A variety of household items were reportedly taken from the residence. First Academy is pleased to recognize those students in first through seventh grade who have earned academic honors for the Third Quarter of the 2017-18 school year. Students are recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being on the Honor Roll or Headmaster’s List. According to the Registered Nursing.org the Associate of Science in Nursing (RN) program at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College has been named one of the top in the state of Georgia. The RN program is ranked #4 in the state among colleges. The ranking was based on the students’ National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) pass rates. Adams & Lott Full Circle Outdoors of Douglas participated in the 51st Claxton Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival in Claxton. The event, formerly known as the Claxton Rattlesnake Roundup, was first started in 1968 but in 2012 the name of the event was changed to the Claxton Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival, when the Evans County Wildlife Club teamed up with the Georgia DNR to focus more on wildlife conservation and education. Mr. Melville Eugene Pugh, age 79, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Coffee Regional Medical Center from a brief illness. Mr. Pugh was born on November 28, 1938 in Alliance, Ohio the son of the late Eugene Pugh and Ruth Martin Pugh.
