Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, in a high-scoring game with East Georgia, but South Georgia State College (SGSC) came out on top with a score of 10-6. SGSC totaled 14 hits in the game. Collecting two hits each were Cole Escher, Tyler Salomon, Seth Shadix, Garrison Hurd, Blake Brito and Ty Tyndal. Jacob Giles and Justin Brooks each added one hit. South Georgia State College baseball fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 5-3 loss to ABAC on Saturday, March 31, 2018. The Hawks tallied eight hits on the day by four of their players. Cole Escher, Jacob Giles, Garrison Hurd and Ty Tyndal each had two hits. Escher and Tyndal earned two RBIs. Zach Mainor took the loss for SGSC. He lasted eight and two-thirds innings, allowing eleven hits and five runs while striking out seven and walking none.
The City of Douglas and Transwaste are offering residential Junk Drop-Off Days, once a month, in 2018 to help city of Douglas citizens dispose of excess trash. The upcoming date will be Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the City Pole Yard located at Pearl Avenue from 8 a.m.-Noon. Additional drop-off dates for 2018 are as follows: May 5, June 2, July 7, Aug. 4, Sept. 1, Oct. 6, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1, 2018. Coffee County sheriff’s authorities have arrested a 43-year-old convicted sex offender after learning he recently moved addresses without notifying the sheriff’s office, as required by his sex offender status. The Coffee Co. Sheriff’s Office was contacted Monday morning, April 2, by officials with the Ware County Sheriff’s Office in reference to William Westbury, a convicted sex offender registered in Coffee County. Ware County authorities stated their agency had a recent interaction with Mr. Westbury in their jurisdiction that led them to believe the offender may be residing in Ware County. The Leadership Coffee Youth Academy (LCYA) visited the state Capitol and was given a personal tour by our local State Representatives Dominic LaRiccia and Clay Pirkle and our State Senator Tyler Harper. Students toured the Georgia Capitol Museum, a public educational institution housed inside the Capitol that exhibits artifacts, including historic flags and works of art that are on public display. Coffee County sheriff’s detectives have obtained a warrant for the arrest of 32-year-old convicted child molester Terrance Dernard Simpson. As part of his sex convicted offender status, Simpson is required to register annually with the sheriff’s office and has failed to do so. Simpson was convicted in Ware County, Ga. in 2014 on charges of child molestation, aggravated child molestation, statutory rape, and enticing a child for indecent purposes. He is described as a black male, approximately 6’06”, 250 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. He is known to have ties to both Coffee and Ware Counties. Anyone with…
