The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce conducted a ribbon cutting for the Love In Action (LIA) Foundation with founders, Derrick and Chandra Green, and several board members, donors, volunteers, family and friends attending. LIA Foundation is a non-profit organization (501c3) whose mission is to target issues of poverty, hunger, education and childcare in the Coffee County area by providing a food pantry, after-school and summer meals, senior meals on wheels, and a backpack feeding program. A man who walked off from a Coffee County Jail work detail Friday is back behind bars following a short-lived escape plan hatched with the assistance of his girlfriend. 50-year-old Donald Dewayne Davis had been incarcerated at the jail since July 2017, on multiple drug charges and a probation violation. He had been placed on a work crew at the courthouse, where he was assigned to painting the visiting judge’s office last Friday. The South Georgia State College Hawks took advantage of strong shooting from Luke Lawson Friday night during the Chick-fil-A Classic to pull away from Arlington Country Day Post Graduate Academy 76-55. On Thursday, Dec. 7, the Alma Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit stopped a vehicle on W. 12th St at Douglas St for a headlight violation. During the traffic stop, officers discovered a digital scale and 11 bags/baggies of marijuana which weighed over ¼ pounds. Christopher Black, 18 of Mershon, was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and headlight requirements.
